Gaiwan - 盖碗

Gaiwan is a wonderful option for tea brewing in Gongfu Cha, since it is elegant, easy to handle and with fast heat conduction. Gaiwan is made up of a lid, a bowl, with or without a saucer. A Gaiwan with saucer is also called San Cai Wan (三才碗), translated to "bowl of three abilities": the lid stands for the sky, the bowl for people, and the saucer for the earth, which implies the harmony between human and nature.

Capacity Note: On our website, full volume refers to the capacity measured up to the rim of the Gaiwan, while effective volume refers to the capacity measured up to the level of the lid. This is also a common practice in China for describing Gaiwan capacity.
