Ai Jiao Oolong translates to “Short-legged Oolong”, suggesting that it is a low-growing shrub species. It is a historic cultivar originally from Jian’ou City in northern Fujian, although some believe its origin traces back to Anxi County, in the southern part of the same province. Over centuries of propagation, it has spread to various regions such as Wuyi, Anxi, and even Taiwan, adopting different names, including Xiao Ye Oolong (Small-leaf Oolong) and Ruan Zhi Oolong (Soft-stem Oolong), among others. The well-known Qing Xin Oolong, widely recognized by international drinkers and used in the production of Oriental Beauty, Bao Zhong, and other teas in Taiwan, is also a cultivar derived from Ai Jiao Oolong.
Our 2017 Ai Jiao Oolong, after many years of careful preservation under the factory's dedicated storage conditions, undergoes a gradual aging process. It perfectly conserves the characters of a traditional Yancha, while completely removing the charcoal notes, remining only the well-balanced minarality. The dry leaves offer comforting ripe fruit notes in the prewarmed Gaiwan, then once steeped, comforting woody scents, bamboo notes, and roasted wheat/corn hints linger both in the wet leaves and the smooth liquor, serving a cup of relaxing and charming aged Yancha.
