Orchid notes are a very elegant aroma profile exclusive to the Shui Xian cultivar. In Yanchas made from younger Shui Xian trees, the orchid notes often present as rich, fluttering aromas, typically like those in our Lan Shui (Orchid Water), known as Lan Xiang (orchid aroma) style. In old-tree Lao Cong Shui Xian teas, however, the orchid notes appear in a more implicit and elegant way: restrained yet expressive, with the orchid scent dissolved into the liquor, known as the Lan Di (orchid undertone) style.
Our “The Orchid” is a Lao Cong Shui Xian of the Lan Di style, selected from the prestigious Wu San Di area. Among Lao Cong Shui Xian teas, orchid notes are not as common or typical as woody and mossy notes. The creation of this special aroma profile requires sunny weather for several days before harvest and on the day of picking, a skillful fresh-leaf process to fix it, a meticulous roasting process (often medium light, up to medium) to preserve it, and above all, it exists only in high-quality harvests from specific terroirs.
This tea is included in the value options of Lao Cong Shui Xian Grand Selection.
