Wuliang Shan mountain range is located in Jingdong County and is approximately 83 kilometers in length from north to south and 7 kilometers wide from east to west, with the highest peak standing at 3306m and with an average elevation of 1800m. Throughout the last 1300 years the Yi minority has grown and made use of the tea trees located on Wuliang Shan, and it has always been a famous tea mountain in the upper reach of the Lancang River and also an important source of high-quality Puerh material. Affected by the seasonal monsoon of the Indian Ocean, the climate is perfect for tea tree growth with a long duration of sunshine, abundant rainfall, indistinctive seasonal changes and big temperature difference between the day and the night. There is a large tea tree community in Wuliang Shan, with big wild tea trees being found anywhere between 1600m and 2200m above sea level, as well as a wide distribution of tea cultivations around all villages. Puerh from Wuliang Shan is considered as typically having a stronger bitterness, weaker yet longer lasting astringency, and a quick Huigan (回甘, sweet aftertaste).

Our 2014 Wuliang Shan Gushu Raw/Sheng Puerh pretty much lives up to the 7 years of dry storage. Following the common features of the production area, it has developed a strong flavour and lovely character. The moderate bitterness, the inconspicuous but lasting astringency, and the quickly coming Huigan are well balanced, building a relatively round body and creating a tempting mouthfeel. Licorice note appears from the beginning and strengthens in later infusions, woody scent warms both the mouth and nose, a bit of spicy, dried drupe fruits hint and baked beans notes gleam and alternate together with the aging aroma.
