Panxi (磻溪) Town is one of the core production areas of Fuding white tea, located on the western slopes of Taimu Shan mountain. With an altitude between 500 and 800 meters, it boasts a forest coverage rate of over 88%, with most tea gardens nestled deep in the mountains. The mild climate, high humidity, significant temperature differences between day and night, together with the rich, gravelly soil, create a perfect ecological environment for tea tree growth.
Panxi is remote and far from Fuding’s urban center. Although tea cultivation here dates back as early as 1279, Panxi‘s tea was not well known in the past due to inconvenient transportation, and was often used as raw material in other renowned production areas like Taimu Shan or Diantou. Given its exceptional quality, Panxi white tea has finally gained its merited recognition in the last decade, ranking among the top micro-terroirs in Fuding.
This semi-aged Bai Hao Yin Zhen (or silver needle)from Panxi is a real gem, with the silver fuzz well preserved, even bushier than that of many fresh Yin Zhen, providing a noticeable Hao aroma (fuzz notes) that lingers for at least 3-5 infusions. Also, the excellent first-picked raw material from early spring, combined with the meticulous aging process, offers comforting sweetness, honey hints, and a distinctive aged aroma, making each sip a luxurious experience.
