The prestigious Bingdao village is well-known to all Puerh fans, thus it seems unnecessary to introduce its basic information. It is a consensus among Puerh connoisseurs in China that, among the innumerable admired tea villages, while Banzhang is regarded as the "king," Bingdao is considered the "queen" in terms of importance. With this collection of Bingdao Wuzhai (the Five Villages of Bingdao), we offer a guaranteed experience to advanced drinkers who wish to appreciate the authentic flavors of Bingdao.

Bingdao village (in administrative terms) consists of five natural villages (or hamlets): Nan Po, Lao Zhai (also known as Bingdao Lao Zhai), Di Jie, Ba Wai, and Nuo Wu. Among them, Bingdao Lao Zhai is the oldest village in the Bingdao area, boasting the oldest Gushu plantations and the most exclusive teas (also the costliest). Teas from these villages share certain characteristics: they all have a rich floral fragrance, specifically orchid notes (except for Nuo Wu), as well as a rock candy-like refreshing sweetness, provided that they are harvested during early spring and, of course, are genuinely from Bingdao. However, despite being situated on the same mountain, the microclimate of each village, along with its respective plantations, imparts interesting nuances to their teas.

We invite you to discover and explore these tea treasures.

Additional Reading:

* Nan Po (南迫), altitude 1800-2000m, is the village closest to Lao Zhai, just 5 km away. The tea from Nan Po tends to be relatively more bitter and also provides more Cha Qi,  the energy experienced as a body sensation.

* Lao Zhai (老寨), altitude 1750-1950m, is situated in the center of the Bingdao area. It has the most ancient tea trees, considered the source of Gushu in the area. Before the concept of Bingdao Gushu tea was generalized to include all five villages, it initially referred only to tea from those trees planted in 1458 found in this village, with fewer than 200 trees surviving. Among all the villages, the tea from Lao Zhai is considered unique, inimitable, and scarce, offering the most balanced flavors and highlighting the refreshing rock candy sweetness.

* Di Jie (地界), altitude 1850-2000m, has its tea plantations located next to the virgin forest, in an even purer and wilder environment. The tea from this village features the most rounded and complex flavors. In addition to the floral fragrance common to the area's teas, it also has subtle fruity notes, although it is usually less sweet compared to that of Lao Zhai.

* Ba Wai (坝歪), altitude 1750-1900m, is the only village in Mengku not connected by a paved road. It has the largest amount of Gushu, with the latest plantations established in 1965, where not a single new tree has been planted since 1980, ensuring pure Gushu raw materials not mixed with harvests from young trees. Located on the eastern hillside, its tea has flavors that comparatively differ from those of Lao Zhai on the western hillside, characterized by more apparent astringency along with a quick Hui Gan in the aftertaste, presenting the most powerful Cha Qi among the teas from these villages.

* Nuo Wu (糯伍), altitude 1650-1900m, has its Gushu plantations of a similar age to those in Ba Wai. It offers the mildest flavor among all the villages, with the least bitterness and astringency, and, logically, also provides the weakest Cha Qi.

** The flavor comparison between teas from the five villages is based on our own experiences combined with published literature; individual perceptions may vary during their degustation. We invite you to share your experience and opinion in the "Product Reviews" section on our website.
