This Lao Shu Mei Zhan (老树梅占) differs significantly from the previous 2023 production: it comes from a different location in the Wuyi Mountains, is processed by a different farmer, and most importantly, is roasted in a completely different style. Therefore, we have created a new product entry for it, rather than following our usual practice of adding it as just a new option under the previous product. Basically, the 2023 and 2024 versions are two different teas, despite sharing the same cultivar.
Compared to the 2023 Lao Shu Mei Zhan, this tea is more deeply and longer roasted at lower temperatures, sacrificing part of its florality to enhance the roasting aroma and creating a harmonious balance among the floral, fruity, and roasting notes. Similar to the 2023 production, it still retains some plum hints and a slight touch of plum-like sourness that typically come from the Mei Zhan old trees. Overall, this Lao Shu Mei Zhan adheres to the traditional Yancha aesthetics, whereas the 2023 production offers a more relaxed flavor profile leaning toward the modern style.
We’ve also created a Mei Zhan pack to help you appreciate both the regular Mei Zhan and the old tree Mei Zhan, as well as the flavor profiles magically developed through the roasting process, all while helping you save 8.60€. The Mei Zhan pack includes:
2024 Lao Shu Mei Zhan 8.3g x 2
2023 Lao Shu Mei Zhan 8.3g x 2
2023 Mei Zhan 8.3g x 2
