Chen Xiang (aged aroma) is a special aroma type of Anxi Tie Guan Yin, developed through long-term aging from either Qing Xiang (fresh fragrance) TGY or Nong Xiang (strong aroma) TGY. During the aging process, tea polyphenols and amino acids slowly oxidize and transform, resulting in a gentler flavor profile with increased mellowness and sweetness, while gradually developing the characteristic aged aroma. With proper storage over an extended period, typically more than 20 years, additional notes such as camphor and medicinal aromas may emerge. For generations, regions such as Fujian and Guangdong in China, as well as parts of Southeast Asia, have maintained the tradition of storing aged Tie Guan Yin for medicinal purposes, believing that it offers health benefits when consumed during times of physical discomfort. The relevant national standard (GB/T 30357.2-2013), issued in April 2016, defines the aging period of Chen Xiang TGY as a minimum of five years.

 

This tea comes from the same organic tea garden as our Anxi Tie Guan Yin Bio – Supreme 6500. In 2016 when this tea was produced, the garden had not yet been certified as organic, so we do not declare this tea as a Bio product, although it is likewise of high quality. It was processed in the classic Nong Xiang style using traditional methods, then carefully aged under proper conditions for long time, resulting in a tasty cup with mild flavors and a pleasant aged aroma, while still reminding us of the fine Nong Xiang TGY it once was.
