Huang Jin Gui originated in Huqiu Town, Anxi County, with accounts saying it was discovered by a woman named Wei Zhen in the mid-19th century. It is also known as Huang Dan, or more precisely, Huang Jin Gui is the commercial name of the tea, while Huang Dan is the name of the cultivar from which the tea is made. It also has a nickname, Tou Tian Xiang, which means “the fragrance that rises to the sky,” reflecting its intensely aromatic nature. In fact, Huang Jin Gui oolong offers intoxicating aromas of gardenia and osmanthus, more intense than those of Tie Guan Yin, while its flavors are slightly less delicate in comparison.

Aside from being one of the four renowned teas of Anxi, Huang Dan (Huang Jin Gui) is also an exceptional genetic source for oolong tea. Huang Guan Yin, Jin Guan Yin, and Jin Mu Dan are all hybrids of Huang Dan and Tie Guan Yin; and furthermore, through a cross between Huang Dan and Huang Guan Yin, Huang Mei Gui was developed. These cultivars are widely used in the production of Yancha and other types of Oolongs, and even black tea. All of this proves the excellence of Huang Jin Gui.

This tea is included in the value offers of Southern Fujian Oolong Tasting Set.
